Welcome to Murfreesboro Arkansas
There may not be an area in the world that offers more diverse and exciting vacation opportunities and family-friendly fun for the outdoor inclined.
The summer heat drives people by the dozen to the welcoming banks of Lake Greeson where visitors can enjoy a relaxing day plucking fish from the bountiful schools that flourish at each destination, or opt for a more fast-paced adventure by boat. The Little Missouri offers class-five canoeing and kayaking to thrill seekers from all over the surrounding area and some of the best trout fishing you'll find in Arkansas.
If you fancy the prospect of striking it rich, the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro could be your destination of choice, as it is the only diamond mine in the world where the public can search and keep what they find. The mine turns out about 1,000 diamonds a year to excited tourists and seasoned park regulars alike, and according to estimates by the Arkansas Geological Survey, it will continue to do so for nearly 500 years.
As the trees in our ample forests signal the arrival of fall, locals gear up for one of the most exciting times of the year: football season. Southwest Arkansas consistently produces some of the most exciting and brutal athletic contests in amateur sports, and was home-field for two conference championship teams in 2009.
Speaking of festivals, you'd be hard pressed to find another part of Arkansas with more to celebrate. Murfreesboro honors the first man to find diamonds there, "John Huddleston", with a special holiday and the fact that he found diamonds at all with a 3-day weekend Diamond Festival including the Swaha Lodge and Marina Diamond Drag Classic Car and Antique Motorcycle Show, Parades, Crafts Vendors, Rides and all the deliciously unhealthy carnival food you can handle.
Our deer woods are also unparalleled in their abundance, attracting hunters from all over to Southwest Arkansas' forests in hopes of bagging that much sought-after buck.
Whether you decide to spend a week here or your whole life, you'll soon see what we already know: the people here are just as inviting as the terrain.
